Who is responsible?

You must complete the Medical Council forms (found via the MCNZ website) and compile the supporting documents listed below.

The documentation required is:

  1. EPIC - MCNZ requires credential verification via the EPIC service. It is recommended that you start the process right away to avoid any delays in your registration process. 

  2. Part A; Chkl4 - Checklist for Worked in Comparable Health System

  3. Part B; REG1 - Application for Registration in NZ including Fee section

Please note: for the fee section it is recommended that you pay by credit card as this will mean the least delay to your application being processed.

  1. Part C; Chkl6 – Worked in Comparable Health System - Practice Profile. Complete a practice profile form for each of your workplaces covering at least the 33 months work in clinical practice prior to applying for registration in New Zealand.
  2. Evidence of Full registration in your practising country (Registration certificate)
  3. IELTS results if necessary to meet Council’s English language requirement – see section 2 of REG1 form. Please also refer to the Council's policy for further information.

Once completed, forward all the documents to your Recruitment Administrator.

Documents should be completed / sent immediately with your accepted offer of employment.

*Note - you are to apply for Certificate of Good Standing in each jurisdiction you have worked in as a medical practitioner during the previous five years, including any work completed in a volunteer capacity. The Certificate of Good Standing cannot be sent more than 3 months prior to your starting date.

NRA will collect and check all of the application documents you submit. We will also gain supervisor and CMO signatures to prepare your application to submit to MCNZ.  This usually takes a week depending on signatories.

MCNZ requires at least 20 working days to process an application.  Note: Questions or further information required from MCNZ about your application can increase the time needed for this process.

MCNZ will issue you your “Invitation to Interview” via email.  This is usually used to obtain a Work Visa in your home country.

If you require a work visa, this is the time at which you should submit your application.

You must now schedule and confirm your MCNZ Interview with a Medical Council Agent in Auckland.  The invitation to interview email will contain details of what you must provide during Interview. You can’t start work until you have had this interview.
