The Auckland Regional training programme in Surgery is facilitated by the Vocational Training Committee on behalf of the Surgical Education an training committees of the various specialist training schemes of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. There are normally 15-20 places for new non-SET registrars each year.

There is a selection process to get into the Auckland regional training programme. The earliest point at which application can be made for the first year of training (SET1) is during Postgraduate Year 2 (PGY2) with entry for successful trainees in Postgraduate Year 3 (PGY3).
The training programme in Auckland is organised by the Surgical Vocational Training Committee with representation from all hospitals across Auckland and the Department of Surgery, University of Auckland. This Committee is committed to further improve the quality of teaching in Surgery in Auckland.
