We are seeking doctors training in Anaesthesia who can commence at one of our hospitals in Auckland on 10 December 2018. Apply now to join the Northern Anaesthesia Training Programme.

Our Training Programme

The Anaesthesia Training programme (Northern Programme) encompasses all the requirements for attaining a Fellowship from the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists. The programme involves rotations to hospitals in Auckland, Whangarei and New Plymouth. The metropolitan Auckland hospitals include Auckland City, Middlemore, North Shore and Starship hospital. External to Auckland, and four hours south is Taranaki Base Hospital whilst two hours north is Whangarei Base hospital. The programme's training rotation ensures trainees will gain a broad range of experience in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine. There is a comprehensive education programme which includes an introductory course to Anaesthesia and long courses for both Part 1 and 2 exams. The Northern programme offers all sub-specialties in Anaesthesia.

If you are successful in your application for the Northern Regional Training Scheme, you may be allocated to rotations during your training in Auckland, Whangarei or Taranaki, in which case there will be an employment process facilitated within the region where you have been allocated to.

As Auckland is the largest city in New Zealand, there is plenty for you and your family/friends to do here. Whether it's dining at one of our world class restaurants, surfing our beautiful beaches or hiking through our lush forests, we have something for everyone! Working as an Auckland Doctor means that you have the opportunity to rotate at any one of our three DHB's, which will give you exposure to a variety of different specialties and cultures. If you are interested in opportunities within the Auckland Region, please apply now via this website.

Whangarei boasts some of the most scenic and exciting coastal areas of New Zealand. Whangarei is credentialed for 12 months of ANZCA training while working as part of a skilled team providing comprehensive general anaesthesia service.

RMOs tell us they come to Taranaki because of the outdoor activities available on their doorstep, whether this is surfing, tramping, fishing or climbing Mt Taranaki. Taranaki is accredited for 12 months of training with ANZCA.

Registrar runs in the region are either 4 or 6 months in length, following which you may rotate into a different run. Example run descriptions for the 2018 training year can be viewed on our website. Taranaki and Whangarei runs are six to twelve months in length.
