Working as an Intensive Care Medicine Registrar

By joining the Auckland Region as an Intensive Care Registrar, you enter a programme with rotations through world class teaching hospitals: North Shore, Waitakere, Auckland City, Starship Children's and Middlemore.

All Auckland region hospitals are located within a 25 kilometer radius of each other. Come and experience our diverse demographic population and a variety of presentations and pathologies.

The Intensive Care Medicine Training programme in Auckland (Northern Programme) encompasses all the requirements for attaining a CICM Fellowship. This is a 5 year programme that ensures that trainees will gain a broad range of experience in Intensive Care Medicine; rotating through the Auckland region hospitals. The Northern programme offers all sub-specialties in intensive care medicine such as Trauma, Paediatrics, Cardiothoracics and Neuro Intensive care. There is regional and unit teaching and we support access to formal courses for the CICM Part 1 and Part 2 exams.

Runs

Registrar runs in the Auckland region are 6 months in length. Example run descriptions for the 2018 training year can be viewed on our website.

Vacancies

We are seeking doctors who can start in one of our hospitals on 10 December 2018.

NOTE: If you are a currently employed Non-set Surgical Registrar within our region, wanting a 6 month ICM run, then please liaise with your Supervisor of Training for consideration of any available ICM runs for the 2019 training year. DO NOT apply to this requisition.

Eligibility Criteria
  • For NZ/Australian graduates to be a PGY3.
  • For UK graduates to be a PGY3 “ Postgraduate year 3 at minimum.
  • Eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
  • Preferably have commenced or completed a run in an Intensive Care or High Dependency Unit
  • If dual training, have commenced training in the other specialty
